Yerington, Nevada : Information & Photographs
Located in west-central Nevada, along US Highway 95, Yerington is a small town with a population of just 2800 people. Yet due to the towns relative remoteness and all the traffic that whizzes through town on US Highway 95 on their way to Las Vegas or Reno, a traveler will find everything needed in Yerington.
Yerington has a nice location. Although the terrain around Yerington is desert, due to water from the melting snows in the nearby Sierra’s, this part of Nevada is heavily agricultural courtesy of irrigation. Cows graze seemingly everywhere, and hay fields sprout up in the strangest of places.
Yerington is nicely located for outdoor pursuits. The Sierra’s are located close-by, while the seldom-visited Pine Nut Mountains loom to the west of town. The enjoyable and remote Walker River Scenic Drive begins just to the south of town, too. Additionally, Walker Lake lies about thirty miles away to the south of town on US Highway 95, while Lahontan Reservoir is thirty miles to the north near the town of Silver Springs.
